DIABELLA'S

CAT POETRY

BY CANDLELIGHT

Enter, and welcome to my world of verse. Fear
not the dark, for I have set the candles ablaze to guide the way.

Over the years I have written
several pieces of poetry which have
found their way into a black book binder. The
book has been opened, and as the flames flicker and
dance upon its pages, I invite you to take a look inside.

candleThis Old CatOld cat in topcat

The sun spilled through an open door
like incandescent haze
A cat stretched smugly on the floor
basking in its rays

Beside him stood a silver dish
...............filled to the brim
with imported smoked fish
A canopy cat bed on which to snooze
and toy after toy from which to choose

Life wasn't gentle, nor was it kind
until the woman set out to find
an old forlorn, forsaken street-cat
from which to make an aristocrat

So now he dined royally
on imported smoked fish
and snoozed under a canopy
near an ornate silver dish
But there weren't many days left
to enjoy this happy ride
because this old cat didn't have
time on his side

The sun spilled through an open door
like incandescent haze
A cat breathed his last breath
while basking in its rays

It's sad that for all of his many years
this old cat lived a life filled with fears
Wondering from where
his next meal would come
dodging from danger
and forever on the run

The sun spilled through an open door
like incandescent haze
a tear trickled down her face
as he lied lifeless in its rays

candleHANDSOME

I haven't forgotten you,
how could I ever?

God had his reason
though I'll never understand
and through it all
I tried to be close at hand

I thought you would make it
you seemed so brave
yet over and over
I envisioned a grave

Weeks of illness you endured
then came December
with her swift, quiet sword

Two full years have come to pass
and last night as I peered into the looking glass
I saw your face, flickering in mine
I heard you say "I'm at peace, valentine"

I haven't forgotten you, how could I ever?

candleTHE ILLUSION

Cat and mirror Cats, cats, everywhere
on the bed and on the chair
on the desk and in the den
well above the number ten

Sitting on a dressing table
eyeing up the tv cable
cats, cats, everywhere
lurking on the chiffonier
eyeing up the chandelier
chewing on an antique chair
having fun without a care

Making mischief by the minute
clawing a bag and all that's in it
cats, cats, everywhere
curious and playful without a care

Then all at once I realize...
t'was only the mirrors
playing tricks upon my eyes
making double - all that trouble
causing confusion by orchestrating an illusion

cats, cats, everywhere
how I wish that mirrors didnt lie
